About Teaching How to Fish
"Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime" -Chinese Proverb
Teaching how to Fish was formulated in 2009 by a group of New Jersey High School students who saw a flaw in most charitable aid to third world countries: a lack of dignity. Though feeding the poor is extremely important, allowing the poor to feed themselves is a more altruistic desire. Allowing the poor to lift themselves from the depths of poverty creates lasting change, while feeding the poor only maintains them at a constant level of sub-standard living. Therefore at Teaching How to Fish, we look to encourage political willpower to change the American Political climate, as well as function as a fundraising entity to generate capitol for other organizations. We are currently looking to apply for 501(C)3 status.
Though we are religously non-denomanational, we will assist organizations with a religious background, provided they provide a detailed disclaimer attesting to the fact that they will NOT evangelize and work to further any religious means. Furthermore, all charities we supply aid to must supply a detalied report as to how the money will be spent. The voting members of the Board of Trustees, with the advice of the board of advisors, will then authorize or deny their request. An active log of donations and requests will be available to all donors.
Teaching How to Fish will also maintain active oversight into the use of donated funds. Organizations receiving funds must provide documentation, upon completion of a project.
We are currently looking to develop contacts with organizations working in underdeveloped coutnries, specifically in the fields of education. After developing contact and reviewing an application, we will plan, and host a fundraiser for your education-focused project.
